More Dutch on summer holiday in 2015
This year 10.7 million Dutch are expected to go on a summer holiday, 1,5% more than the year before. This growth is the first since 2011, according to NBTC-NIPO (Dutch Bureau for Tourism, Conferences and Research), who state that this is a result of the economic recovery. In addition more Dutch are travelling to foreign countries for their summer holidays (7.6 million).
With 1.3 million holiday plans, France remains the number 1 destination for this summer, followed by Spain (1 million) and Germany (750.000). In domestic travel NBTC-NIPO has seen a decrease of 50.000. Noteworthy is the fact that +5½ percent of the Dutch intend to choose to fly to their (long haul) holiday destination instead to taking the car.
Nearly 30% of the Dutch holiday takers hasn't decided on their destination yet and 10% has said to choose spontaneous and unplanned.
